She’s a 13-year-old Holstein cow and she stands at almost 190 centimetres, or 6ft 4in, making her the tallest cow in the world.

The massive mammal lives in Orangeville, Illinois, which is outside the US city of Chicago.

Holstein cow’s typically stand at around 140-150 centimetres but Blosom is so large, she’s even taller than Australian basketball players Patty Mills and Adam Gibson.

Her owner, Patty Meads-Hanson, says Blosom is naturally tall.

“A lot of people are brought up that she’s been given growth hormones. I’ve had her since she was eight weeks old,” Ms Meads-Hanson said.

“She can’t even eat corn anymore. One year, she got into the sweet corn patch, and she ate too much sweet corn and she developed a condition called Founder. So I can’t even give her corn. She basically lives off of the oats and the grass and the hay.”

While her owner says Blosom can’t calf, Ms Meads-Hanson says the cow has become one of the family and has important jobs around the farm.

“Anywhere else, she would have never lived past when they determined she could not have a calf and you know pull in an income you know or work for the farm, the protocol is to just send them off for market,” she said.

“Anywhere else, that’s what would have happened to her, but she’s stayed here. I’ve got pictures of my kids sitting on her. She’s just a member of the family.”

“Her basic job (at the crafting retreat) is to welcome the ladies who come here to craft. They do scrapbooking and quilting. They come here and the highlight is having their picture taken with Blossom.”

Ms Meads-Hanson said Blosom’s new found fame was totally unexpected.

“Yeah, it’s just crazy,” she said. “I never imagined this kind of reaction to all of this, I just wanted to you know, kind of help promote the retreat a little bit.”
